Inspired by @LadyLeaf's latest installment of the Twilight Realm! I might do a few more vignettes of Sara's past she didn't record in her journal. Anyway, the Twilight Realm belongs to LadyLeaf! :D On a separate note, I've finished another section of @Forgotten's Order of Thorns story, which I've put in a different story since my first was getting quite long.

Sara pulled on one of her many purple, black, and silver ensembles and adjusted the silver necklace around her throat. Her fingers lingered over the clasp of the locket charm. Jean-Pierre had instructed her not to open it until they were both old and grey and Sara had stayed true to that promise, keeping the charm closed ever since.

There wasn't much left that she did not know, but there was always something to surprise her. Paris had changed a great deal since 1873, that was certain. "Oh!" Sara exclaimed to herself. She'd nearly forgotten about the plans she had made with Cyrus for dinner that evening. Perhaps it was lucky, then, that her sleep had been so disturbed by her dreams. It would have been terribly impolite of her to arrive late, or worse, to not arrive at all.

No one would understand my plight, and even if they did, I would not wish to burden them with that knowledge. It's not difficult to keep conversations away from myself and my truest feelings; people love to talk about themselves. Sara shook her head and turned away from the window. Enough cynicism. If she wanted any sort of happiness at all she would have to keep her mental attitude straight. Perhaps tonight she would explore a new portion of this city she loved so dearly.

Perhaps that was because she knew now that only a few years later she would be visiting Jean-Pierre on his deathbed. Look at all of these people, gathered in the streets below. They walk in groups or in pairs, and those who walk alone speak with someone they know on the phone. This is what I envy the most of these people. I can never form a connection with someone; not for long, anyway. I must always keep my polite distance because in a matter of minutes they will be dead. Dust in the wind.

Sara's eyes flew open and she found herself shivering, a prickle of inexplicable fear resting in her heart. It was late afternoon, as she could tell by the sliver of rich sunlight falling through her closed curtains. Well, it was probably time she woke anyway. Sara approached the window and peered out into the street. It wasn't the first time she had recounted memories in the form of vivid dreams, but this one had been particularly unsettling.

It's all my fault, Sara thought to herself as she walked alone on the busy streets of London. I never should have let him get so far in the first place. Now he will be scarred for the rest of his lifeâ¦come to think of it, so will I. I deserve it; I was the one who made this mistake. Pierre isn't to be blamed. "Child of the Night, awake."

One of the men offered to dance with Sara and she politely accepted, spending the rest of the evening on and off of the stage. As the party began to disperse, Sara slipped away and began the journey home. Well, not home, exactly, but the place where she lived for now. Sara couldn't name home even if she tried. It wasn't in Slovakia amongst the White Carapathians, nor in Paris where she had left her beloved Jean-Pierre behind for fear he would misunderstand her.

Sara stepped out onto the stage and sang her piece, less heart in her words than usual. Couples danced on the grass and their laughter rang out in the stars. When she finally took a break she was met by a group of men and women who wished to congratulate her. "Wonderful work, miss, simply wonderful." "You have such a lovely voice, Ms. Chatain. I'd love to talk with you about an opening I have in my business if you have the time." "Pleasure to meet you, Ms. Chatain."

Saraâs expression darkened in spite of herself and the familiar sensation of intense guilt rushed through her veins. âIâm sure he would have.â "Oh, I'm so sorry, miss!" the assistant exclaimed in dismay. "I didn't mean to offend you. That was impolite of me." "No, it's alright," Sara insisted, forcing a smile onto her face. "The war took a lot of fellas." "Oh, he's not dead," Sara said. Not yet. "Hes still out there somewhere."
